Background of Our Organization

Quick-Change Association for Educational Promotion, Livelihood Development and Awareness (QAFELA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2009 and registered in 2011 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The organization is also registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Charity Commission. With its head office in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, QAFELA was founded by experienced development professionals committed to improving the lives of marginalized and underserved communities through sustainable, community-led development.

The name QAFELA symbolizes “traveling together for peace and prosperity.” Since its inception, the organization has been working to promote inclusive and sustainable development by addressing poverty, inequality, limited access to essential services, and the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters. QAFELA believes that lasting development can only be achieved when communities are empowered to identify their own priorities, participate in decision-making, and take ownership of the development process.

QAFELA operates across a broad range of development sectors, including education, healthcare, climate resilience, women’s empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, humanitarian assistance, disaster risk reduction, human rights, governance, social mobilization, and community development. Through these integrated interventions, the organization seeks to improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations, particularly women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, and communities living in remote and disaster-prone areas.

The organization is governed by an experienced Board of Governors and supported by a multidisciplinary team of professionals with extensive national and international expertise in development planning, project implementation, education, healthcare, humanitarian response, monitoring and evaluation, financial management, and community mobilization. QAFELA is committed to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, professionalism, gender equality, and environmental sustainability, ensuring that these principles guide all of its programs and operations.

Community participation is the cornerstone of QAFELA’s development approach. The organization works closely with local communities by establishing and strengthening Village Organizations (VOs), Women’s Organizations (WOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and volunteer networks. These community institutions play an active role in identifying local needs, planning and implementing development activities, monitoring project progress, and promoting local ownership to ensure long-term sustainability.

Over the years, QAFELA has successfully implemented a wide range of development and humanitarian initiatives in partnership with government institutions, development agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities. Its programs include improving access to quality education, managing Government Colleges & Schools, strengthening primary healthcare services through the Diya Rural Health Centre (DRHC) responding to emergencies and natural disasters, promoting climate resilience, supporting sustainable livelihoods, empowering women and youth, and protecting the rights of vulnerable and marginalized populations.

One of QAFELA’s flagship initiatives is the Government Primary Schools Outsourcing Project, awarded by the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Under this initiative, QAFELA manages 31 Government Primary Schools in the districts of Swat and Buner. The project focuses on increasing school enrolment, improving learning outcomes, strengthening school management, and expanding access to quality education particularly for girls in remote and underserved communities.

Today, QAFELA continues to expand its impact through innovative partnerships, evidence-based programming, and community-driven solutions. Guided by its vision of a peaceful, equitable, and prosperous society, the organization remains dedicated to empowering communities, reducing poverty, strengthening resilience, and creating sustainable opportunities that improve lives and contribute to long-term development for present and future generations.
